Finding a friend for my Siberian Husky dog turned out not to be as easy as I thought. It took research to find a reputable Siberian Husky Breeder.
I saw endless puppies for sale signs and was repeatedly tempted to stop in and end the tedious search. I just wasn't willing to risk getting a sick dog.
I contacted my local veterinarian for suggestions and came up short. I started calling pet stores for referrals and found them tightlipped about their sources.
I eventually found a reputable Siberian Husky Breeder online and contacted her. She gave me a list of references, which I promptly checked and found to be more than reassuring. After much due diligence, I adopted my beautiful Siberian Husky puppy and brought her home. She was worth every minute spent of legwork.

This morning I began hunting for a quality Siberian Husky breeder by turning on my computer and checking some online sites.
After making a few calls, I began to get the distinct impression that many of these people were simply after my hardearned money and had very few credentials.
I called several inner city dog walkers and as asked them if they might be able to assist me on my search for a quality Siberian Husky breeder.
It didn't take very long for the trainers to point out several quality Siberian Husky breeders that they worked for themselves. I left feeling confident about my search and I ended up leaving with some sound puppy training advice too.

If someone had told me that finding a quality Siberian Husky breeder was so difficult, I might not have agreed to get my daughter one for her birthday.
I heard story after story of friends adopting sick puppies and not finding out about it until they were emotionally attached. No one seemed to have a clue as to where to start the search.
I visited our local dog park every day for a week before I finally saw a boy playing with a beautiful and wellbehaved Siberian Husky dog. I talked to the boy's father and was thrilled when he took my number to call me with breeder's information.
The puppy and my daughter became instant friends and that made the tedious search worth it. I was also relieved to know that the dog was healthy and probably be with us for a long time.

I groom my Siberian Husky once or twice a week and I try to focus on taking away the dead hair while still gently revitalizing the skin glands to produce healthy oils. Making the session fun with treats and a soothing voice ensures that my Siberian Husky will look forward to this time spent together.
I try never to tug at my Siberian Huskys fur, if there is a matted section that can't be eased out with a touch of cooking oil; I just cut it away with scissors.
Anytime I get a new brush, I will rake it across the back of my hand or arm as a test of what it will feel like to my Siberian Husky. If it is painful or irritable, I will not use it because I don't want to scratch my dogs' sensitive skin.
During grooming I always keep a careful eye out for any reddening of the skin, signs of fleas or other parasites and any spots that are swollen or painful to the touch.

Okay, so I must confess, when we brought the puppy home, I had a bristle brush for his coat, I had a gate to keep him safe, I had a crate to make him his own space.
It wasn't until after the doggy kisses were kind of brutal and nasty smelling that I got a clue that I hadn't planned for everything. The poor little puppy was going to need his teeth brushed and I wasn't sure how to do that.
After an online search I recognized what I needed and picked up a fingertip toothbrush and some beef toothpaste. Yum, yum.
Oh, and don't ever use people toothpaste on the dog's teeth. Apparently there are some ingredients that can be harmful if swallowed and dogs just can't be taught to spit on command.

My Siberian Husky was seemingly scratching at his ears and neck more often, so I took a finetoothed comb out to help me assess if I had a flea problem on my hands.
After dragging it through his fur, I shook the small amount of debris onto a piece of white tissue paper. Small red flakes were present and indicated the presence of fleas living on my Siberian Husky. I had to cure this problem fast as fleas can multiply rapidly and spread to the entire household, making them harder to exterminate.
I easily found a whole section of flea treatments at the local supermarket that ranged from powders and collars, to sprays and shampoos.
After shampooing my Siberian Husky and then spraying down the areas if the home he frequented most, I took him to the vet and he got a medicinal flea preventative.

Do I Want To Be A Foster Parent?

I'm guessing that my over enthusiasm with my little puppy caught their attention, but today at the dog park I was approached by members of the local Siberian Husky Rescue/Adoption organization. They asked if I might be interested in becoming a foster parent to rescued Labs.
I explained that I didn't know anything about fostering or what exactly a rescue/adoption organization even did. Apparently because Siberian Huskys are a very popular breed there are often times that they require foster homes to place displaced dogs.
The mission of a dog rescue organization is to find foster placements, and ultimately adoption homes for dogs that may have been lost, abandoned, or abused.
I explained that I didn't have the physical resources of time and energy to take on the responsibility and commitment of another dog at the present time. I do think, however, that I will look into donating other resources to assist their cause it seems like a good thing to me.
